Flyers acquire Boris Katchouk from Wild for Roman Schmidt

The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Sunday night that they have acquired forward Boris Katchouk in a minor swap with the Minnesota Wild.
In return, the Flyers are sending defenseman Roman Schmidt to Minnesota.
This is the second trade in which Katchouk has been involved this season. In December, the Wild acquired him from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for forward Michael Milne.
Katchouk did not make any appearances at the NHL level with the Minnesota, but he played in three games with the Lightning prior to the initial trade, skating an average of 12:11 per night without recording a point.
Katchouk was a second-round pick by the Lightning in the 2016 NHL Draft at No. 44 overall. During his rookie 2021-22 campaign, he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks as part of the deal that sent winger Brandon Hagel to the Lightning.
In his NHL career, he has totaled 15 goals and 21 assists for 36 points in 179 games played.
Schmidt, like Katchouk, was previously a member of the Tampa Bay organization this season. Back in December, the Bolts dealt him to the Flyers in exchange for defenseman Ethan Samson.
The No. 96 overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft by Tampa Bay, Schmidt has skated in a combined 29 AHL games this season between the Tampa Bay affiliate Syracuse Crunch and the Philadelphia affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The Midland, Michigan native has recorded one point and skated to a minus-10 rating.
The swap adds minor league depth for both organizations, but for the Flyers, Katchouk could get a look at the NHL level with Philadelphia potentially being a seller at this Friday’s NHL trade deadline.
The Flyers are six points below the cut line for the playoffs in the Eastern Conference with a 27-21-11 record. The Wild, on the other hand, have been one of the top teams in the NHL all season. Their 35-16-10 record has them third in the Central Division and fifth in the entire league.
