As the offseason continues, one of the league’s longstanding franchises is looking to stay in the postseason mix for the foreseeable future.

The Boston Bruins bounced back after a tough 2024-25 season to finish in the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, posting the eighth-best record in the NHL with 100 points. They weren’t able to turn it into a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, falling to the Buffalo Sabres in the first round.

Yet, there’s optimism in New England, as the team has both cap space and momentum heading into the summer.

On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton discuss the approach the Bruins should take for the next few months.

Tyler Yaremchuk: I’m wildly curious what they’re gonna do here. Are they gonna go crazy in free agency? I don’t know if they need to, because again, they have a bunch of players under contract already. I think the number one need for them, though, I would imagine, it’s adding a piece to their top-six. I think they’re just one guy short. I think you want to be a little bit deeper if you want to take that next step forward. So, I would expect the Boston Bruins, who have an extra first-round pick in two of the next three drafts…with Florida’s and Toronto’s. I think they could be pretty active in the trade market, and they haven’t been connected to this guy a ton. I think they should be making a call on Vincent Trocheck

Carter Hutton: He would be a guy that could come in, he could fit in. It depends on what you’re giving up now. I think a piece that could move for them, we chatted yesterday with Kevin Woodley about Michael DiPietro, how good he’s been. He would come in on a low deal. Joonas Korpisalo still has three years or two years left at $3 million. That’s a good asset to have, and we’ve talked a ton about having a reliable backup.

I think for this team, like even Darnell Nurse is a name that I’ve seen thrown around a ton, a piece that maybe comes in. They have to sign Arvidsson. My worry is up the middle with Lindholm. He hasn’t really been able to get it done like we expected. He has a really good ticket, a lot of money. I think that’s going to be a piece that you know we have to keep an eye on. Fraser Minten has been very good. It’s how you can promote from within, too. I feel like your bottom six, you can always move.

Boston’s still managing those championship years, too, with picks that were gone. If you can get through this window and get into that draft pick, we’re talking about how you have Swayman, I think you can almost miss that whole rebuild phase and still become a team that is consistently in the playoffs.
