Several players are packing their bags.

On Sunday night, the Vancouver Goldeneyes and Ottawa Charge engaged in the largest trade in PWHL history, with six players being involved. The Charge have acquired forwards Michela Cava and Brooke McQuigge, along with defender Emma Greco. In return, the Goldeneyes received forwards Mannon McMahon, Anna Meixner and Anna Shokhina.

Cava and McQuigge both came to Vancouver from the Minnesota Frost, both winning the Walter Cup last season. Cava and Greco were on the first championship team in Minnesota in 2024, before Greco joined the Boston Fleet last season. Cava scored a goal and four assists for five points with Vancouver, which was tied for third on the team in scoring.

McQuigge had just one assist in 13 games with the Goldeneyes, with Greco still searching for her first point during the 2025-26 season.

McMahon and Meixner had been with Ottawa for their first two seasons. After posting eight points during her rookie season, McMahon has scored a goal and an assist so far this year. Meixner has two goals in 13 games. Shokhina was taken by the Charge in the second round of the 2025 PWHL Draft. The Russian has been having a decent start to her rookie season, scoring a goal and four points in 12 games.

The Charge is one of the hottest teams in all of hockey. After a rough start to the 2025-26 campaign, where many believed the team would be battling for the first-overall pick in next year’s draft, Ottawa has turned things around, thanks to a six-game win streak over the past month. It has quickly made the reigning runners-up a playoff contender once again.

The Goldeneyes certainly needed a shakeup. Many, including yours truly, thought the expansion team was among the best in the PWHL before they stepped onto the ice. However, things haven’t played out. While Vancouver has been good at home, it has lost seven of eight games on the road, six of them in regulation. The team is seventh in the league in goals scored (22) and is last in goals against (34), even with a D-corps featuring Sophie Jaques, Claire Thompson, and Emerance Maschmeyer between the pipes.

The Goldeneyes (3-1-2-7) are currently seventh in the PWHL, six points back of the Montreal Victoire for fourth place. They will be facing the Toronto Sceptres on home ice, their first home game in almost a month, on Thursday night.

The Charge (3-4-0-6) are sixth in the league, but just two points back of the Victoire. They will be visiting the New York Sirens on Tuesday night.
