Mammoth sign Nick DeSimone to two-year contract extension

The Utah Mammoth have agreed to terms with pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Nick DeSimone on a two-year contract extension, the club announced Monday evening.
DeSimone, 31, appeared in 40 games with the Mammoth during the 2025-26 regular season, collecting two goals and eight points while averaging 14:13 of ice time. He did not appear in any of Utah’s six playoff games.
According to the Mammoth, DeSimone’s new contract carries a $1 million NHL cap hit through the end of the 2027-28 season, at which point he will again be scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.
“Nick brings a veteran presence to our blue line and plays a very reliable game,” Utah general manager Bill Armstrong said Monday. “He skates well, moves the puck effectively, and is the consummate professional. We are excited to have him on our roster.”
Utah originally acquired DeSimone from the New Jersey Devils via the waiver wire midway through the 2024-25 season. The 6’2″ right-shot defenseman collected six points in 20 games with the Mammoth to finish the year.
An undrafted player, DeSimone spent three seasons at Union College before turning pro with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda in the 2016-17 season. The East Amherst, N.Y. product began his professional career with parts of five seasons in the San Jose Sharks organization, although he never played in an NHL game with the club.
In April of 2021, the Sharks sent DeSimone to the Vegas Golden Knights as part of a three-way trade; Vegas subsequently loaned DeSimone to the AHL’s Rochester Americans, with whom he finished the 2020-21 season.
DeSimone subsequently signed with the Calgary Flames as an unrestricted free agent in 2021; he eventually appeared in his first 27 NHL games over parts of three seasons in the Flames organization. The Devils claimed DeSimone off waivers from the Flames in 2024.
In 98 career NHL games over parts of four seasons with Calgary, New Jersey, and Utah, DeSimone has collected five goals and 21 points.
