Sirens set to play game at Madison Square Garden

One of the fastest-rising leagues in the world is heading to The World’s Most Famous Arena.
On Thursday, the PWHL announced that the New York Sirens will be taking on the Seattle Torrent at Madison Square Garden.
The game will be a primetime event, as puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 4. Sirens general manager Pascal Daoust, a huge fan of the City of New York, says the opportunity to play at MSG is massive for the team and the league.
“Playing at the Garden is an honor and sharing it with our dedicated fans will make it even more special,” Daoust said in a release. “New York doesn’t just watch moments; it lives with them. This is one of those nights meant to be experienced together, in the building, as part of the history of our team, our league, and everyone who helps bring it to life.”
This won’t be the first time professional hockey has taken place inside the usual home of the New York Rangers. In 2021, the PWHPA Dream Gap Tour had a stop inside the arena. While the game was broadcast in both the U.S. and Canada, no fans were able to attend due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This will be the fourth different arena the Sirens have played in the Tri-State Area. Along with their inaugural home in Bridgeport, Conn., the team has played at the home of the New York Islanders, UBS Arena, as well as their current home, the Prudential Center, the New Jersey Devils‘ home rink.
The matchup between Seattle and New York will be the third and final of the season between the two teams. It also won’t be the first played outside of the team’s usual homes. Powered by Casey O’Brien’s hat trick, the Sirens came away with a 4-3 win over the Torrent in the Takeover Tour Game in Dallas on Dec. 28. Seattle beat New York on home ice back on Dec. 3.
The Sirens (6-0-0-5) are currently tied for second in the PWHL, four points back of the first-place Boston Fleet. The Torrent (3-1-1-4) are tied for sixth, three points back of a playoff spot.
