Sirens’ Zandee-Hart suspended; Fleet’s Huber fined

A couple of separate acts have initiated supplemental discipline.
On Tuesday, the PWHL Player Safety Committee announced that New York Sirens defender Micah Zandee-Hart was suspended one game for an illegal check to the head on Minnesota Frost forward Katy Knoll. Also, Boston Fleet forward Ella Huber was fined $250 for cross-checking Montreal Victoire forward Hayley Scamurra.
Both incidents came during action this past Saturday. Just past the halfway mark of the third period between the Sirens and Frost, Zandee-Hart laid a high and hard hit on Knoll that came after the latter had moved the puck out of the Minnesota zone.
The PSC determined that head contact was avoidable on the play. Zandee-Hart was handed a major penalty and a game misconduct for the hit. New York went on to lose the game, 4-1.
With the suspension, The 29-year-old will miss Wednesday’s crucial game against the Toronto Sceptres. She’ll be eligible to return to the lineup on Saturday against the Ottawa Charge, a contest that could determine New York’s fate.
This isn’t the first time the Sirens’ captain has faced supplemental discipline. Back in November, in the team’s first game of the season, Zandee-Hart was handed a $250 fine for cross-checking Charge forward Gabbie Hughes.
Zandee-Hart has potted a goal and four points in 26 games this year with the Sirens.
Huber’s fine spurs from her actions during Saturday night’s game at TD Garden. Late in the second period, the former Minnesota Golden Gopher was handed a minor penalty for cross-checking Scamurra in the head. After further review, the PSC determined it was enough to warrant an additional fee.
This is the rookie’s first encounter with supplemental discipline in her PWHL career. In 26 games this season, she has scored three goals and two assists for five points.
The fines are paid to the league, and help support girls’ hockey programming and equipment access initiatives.
