Sirens’ Emmy Fecteau suspended one game for hit on Torrent’s Mikayla Grant-Mentis

The PWHL has levied a one-game suspension against New York Sirens forward Emmy Fecteau for an illegal hit against Seattle Torrent forward Mikayla Grant-Mentis over the weekend.
The PWHL’s Player Safety Committee reviewed the hit thrown in the first period of the matchup in front of over 18,000 fans at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, before announcing the ruling on Tuesday afternoon.
Fecteau was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct for an illegal check to the head. While the PWHL’s Player Safety Committee determined that the head was not the primary point of contact, it determined that Fecteau’s body check was dangerous and did not show intent to play the puck when she had “ample opportunity to do so.”
Yet the initial call on the ice stood without penalty to Fecteau, and the officials required a video review to correct the missed call. As Daily Faceoff’s Tyler Kuehl said in his weekly takeaways, misses like that are still too common:
“It’s not that the penalty wasn’t warranted; it’s that it took a video review to correct the officials’ mistake,” he wrote here. “There have been too many instances this season where refs have either been questionable or blatantly wrong. Hopefully, the crews picked to work the postseason are ready for the task and call a good series of games.”
The Sirens eventually prevailed over the Torrent in a shootout, keeping slim hopes of advancing to the Walter Cup Playoffs for the first time in franchise history. This season, the 27-year-old Fecteau has no goals and one assist in 24 games. It marks the second season where the former Concordia University and U Sports standout has struggled offensively, after scoring once with no assists in 30 games in 2024-25.
However, the suspension is the first disciplinary incident of her career and will hold her out of New York’s April 11 matchup against the Minnesota Frost.
