Stop the press, we have action on PWHL Trade Deadline Day.

Just over an hour from the deadline, the New York Sirens acquired forward Denisa Kirzova from the Minnesota Frost. In return, the Frost receive defender Jincy Roese in a one-for-one deal. The move addresses the needs of both teams heading into the final month of the regular season.

For the Sirens, they get a player who has been a solid secondary scorer on the back-to-back Walter Cup champions. Krizova has been a bottom-six forward for most of her tenure in Minnesota, which has led to lesser production compared to the likes of Taylor Heise, Kelly Panne and Kendall Coyne Schofield. So far this season, Krizova has scored just one goal and four assists for five points in 23 games, registering a plus/minus of -1 while averaging 14:05 of ice time.

This isn’t the first time Krizova has been traded this year. Originally taken by the Vancouver Goldeneyes in the PWHL Expansion Draft, the Czech star was traded back to Minnesota for Anna Segedi.

In 77 regular-season games in the PWHL, the 31-year-old has notched eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points. She scored a pair of goals in Minnesota’s run to the inaugural Walter Cup in 2024.

Roese was in her first season with the Sirens after playing the first two years in the PWHL with the Ottawa Charge. She hasn’t quite had the scoring pace that led to her posting 14 points last season, but has done her best on a New York team that has been inconsistent, to say the least. In 22 contests, the O’Fallon, Mo. native has posted six assists, with a +1 rating and an average time-on-ice of 15:24.

While the former U.S. National Team member might not be one to light up the scoreboard, she provides extra stability to a rather shaky D-corps in St. Paul.

Roese has scored three goals and 22 assists for 25 points in 73 career games in the PWHL.

Both Kirzova and Roese are on one-year contracts and are poised to become unrestricted free agents this summer.

The two will get a chance to face their former teams twice before the season’s said and done. New York and Minnesota will meet in Newark on Wednesday, while the Frost will host the Sirens on April 11.

The Frost (11-3-3-6) are third in the PWHL, nine points back of the Boston Fleet for first. The Sirens (8-0-3-12) are tied with the Goldeneyes for sixth, six points back of Ottawa for fourth.
