The New York Rangers are playing the asset management game.

The club has elected to sit forwards Vincent Trocheck and Sam Carrick ahead of the team’s game on Thursday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, with less than 24 hours to go until the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline.

Trocheck won’t come close to reaching the 77 points he had in 2023-24 with the Rangers. But the 32-year-old is still tracking for around 60 points after scoring 12 goals and 39 points in 46 games. Fresh off a gold medal with the United States Olympic men’s hockey team, Trocheck is still a valuable two-way center who can kill penalties and generate quality scoring chances.

Drafted 64th overall by the Florida Panthers in 2011, Trocheck has 235 goals and 617 points in 847 regular season games to his credit. The two-time NHL all-star has not yet won the Stanley Cup, but has proven to be a key contributor wherever he has played throughout his career, including a three-year run with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Trocheck’s current deal pays him $5.625 million until the end of the 2028-29 season.

Carrick has four goals, 10 points, 53 penalty minutes, and 86 hits in 60 games during the 2025-26 season. The 34-year-old forward is in his second year with the club, having registered 20 points in 2024-25. Drafted 144th overall by the Maple Leafs, Carrick has 38 goals, 83 points, and 427 penalty minutes in 380 career regular-season games over 10 seasons.

The trade deadline is set for 3:00 PM ET on Friday, March 6, 2026.
