Islanders sign Marshall Warren to one-year, two-way contract

The New York Islanders announced on Friday morning that they have signed defenseman Marshall Warren to a one-year, two-way contract. The team did not disclose the terms of the contract in its announcement.
Warren, a 25-year-old Long Island native who hails from the town of Laurel Hollow, got his first taste of NHL action this season as he appeared in eight games and recorded three assists with the Islanders this season.
The six-foot tall blueliner also had an excellent campaign at the AHL level with the Bridgeport Islanders, potting 6 goals and dishing out 26 assists for 32 points in 56 games played before chipping in an assist in two appearances in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Warren is an accomplished NCAA product who spent four years at Boston College, including a run as the captain of the Eagles in 2022-23, before wrapping up his collegiate career with the Michigan Wolverines in 2023-24.
Regular NHL playing time could be in the picture for Warren next season with a really strong training camp and pre-season, but at the minimum, he will provide a quality presence for New York’s AHL squad as they re-locate from Bridgeport to Hamilton, Ontario.
This move is the first of many that Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche will make this summer as he looks to maneuver his team’s roster into one that can make the Stanley Cup Playoffs next season.
New York was in the field for most of this year, but fell out down the stretch. The Islanders finished 43-34-5 in a year that was highlighted by the emergence of 2025 No. 1 overall pick and Calder Trophy winner Matthew Schaefer as one of the very best defensemen in the NHL.
Next year, a core headlined by Schaefer and star goaltender Ilya Sorokin will look to build on last season under new head coach Peter DeBoer, who took over after Darche relieved Patrick Roy of his duties at the tale end of the regular season.
