Islanders hire Evan Gold as assistant GM

A rising name among hockey executives is heading to Long Island.

On Monday, the New York Islanders announced that the team has hired Evan Gold as the team’s new assistant general manager.

Gold joins Mathieu Darche’s staff, working in all facets of hockey operations, working with fellow AGMs Chris Lamoriello, Ryan Bowness and Steve Pellegrini. He’ll be involved with contract negotiations, contract strategy, scouting, salary cap management and more. Gold has also been named the GM of the Islanders’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Hamilton Hammers, a role previously held by Lamoriello, who is now focusing more on player personnel decisions, along with working with the Isles’ scouting staff.

In a statement, Gold said he and his family are excited about the opportunity to work for a storied organization.

Working for a legendary franchise is nothing new to Gold. He has spent the past 12 seasons under the Boston Bruins banner, serving as director of hockey operations for four seasons before becoming an AGM under Don Sweeney in 2019. He later became the GM of Boston’s primary affiliate, the Providence Bruins, in 2023. This past season, he put together a roster that finished with the best record in the AHL.
