A pair of New Jersey Devils forwards will be out for significant lengths of time in the wake of injury news announced on Saturday afternoon.

The Devils have placed Stefan Noesen on injured reserve in anticipation of the veteran forward undergoing knee surgery this coming week to address a lingering issue. The 32-year-old winger last appeared in the Devils’ 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, logging 8:16 of ice time.

Additionally, Devils forward Zack MacEwen will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season after undergoing ACL surgery, the club announced Saturday. The 29-year-old has appeared in just three NHL games with the Devils this season, most recently against the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 12.

A first-round pick (No. 21 overall) of the Ottawa Senators in the 2011 NHL Draft, Noesen has never played for his draft club but is currently in the midst of his second tenure with the Devils. The Plano, TX product set career highs with 22 goals and 41 points in 78 games with the Devils in the 2024-25 regular season.

Noesen made his NHL debut with the Anaheim Ducks in the 2014-15 season after being included in the major Jakob Silfverberg-for-Bobby Ryan trade between the Ducks and Senators. He eventually joined the Devils off waivers midway through the 2016-17 season.

In 482 career NHL games over parts of 12 seasons with the Ducks, Devils, Penguins, San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Carolina Hurricanes, Noesen has collected 83 goals and 175 points; the 6’1″ right wing has added 10 goals and 15 points in 35 playoff contests. He has three goals and seven points in 38 games with the Devils this season.

The Devils acquired MacEwen from the Senators back in October in exchange for fellow tough guy Kurtis MacDermid. An undrafted player from Summerside, P.E.I., MacEwen is a 6’4″ right wing who has split his professional career between the NHL and AHL.

In 240 career NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Senators, and Devils, MacEwen has collected 17 goals, 34 points, and 323 penalty minutes. He’s also skated in seven playoff games with the Canucks and Kings.

Having lost each of their last three games in regulation, the Devils appear to be on the verge of making significant lineup changes for their next game against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Veteran defenseman Dougie Hamilton skated on the Devils’ “fourth pairing” in Saturday’s practice, indicating he could be a healthy scratch for the game against Winnipeg.
