The Nashville Predators announced on Monday that they have signed forward Fedor Svechkov to a two-year contract extension.

Svechkov, who was set to be a restricted free agent after this season, will make $1.25 million per year under the terms of the new agreement, which will kick in for the 2026-27 season.

The No. 19 overall pick by the Predators in the 2021 NHL Draft, Svechkov has appeared in 110 career games with 11 goals, 19 assists and 30 points to his name.

Currently in his second season, Svechkov has 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 points while skating to a minus-6 rating on an average of 11:56 of time on ice per game.

The extension for Svechkov marks another move made by outgoing general manager Barry Trotz, who is working to leave the franchise in the best shape he can for his successor, who will be hired following the conclusion of this season.

Trotz also worked out a low-cost extension for another depth forward in Zachary L’Heureux last week.

The longtime head coach of the Predators who left to work behind the bench elsewhere for several years, Trotz took the GM job during the 2023 offseason, one year before he spent big in unrestricted free agency, landing star players like Steven Stamkos, Brady Skjei and Jonathan Marchessault.

Nashville missed the playoffs a year ago in a season with sky-high expectations following those signings, and after a slow start this season, Trotz announced that he would step down from the position after the season back in February.

Despite the slow start, the Predators are still very much alive in a Western Conference playoff race that does not feature much in the way of teams playing at a high level.

Nashville, with a record of 33-28-9, currently holds the second wild card spot with a two-point lead over Los Angeles and a four-point margin ahead of Seattle.
