Frost place Dominique Petrie on long-term injured reserve

A tough blow for a key depth player for the two-time Walter Cup champions.
On Thursday, the Minnesota Frost placed forward Dominique Petrie on long-term injured reserve with a lower-body injury. In response, the team signed forward Kaitlyn O’Donohoe to a standard player agreement.
Petrie was hurt during this past Sunday’s game against the Montreal Victoire. In the second period of the game, Petrie was hit hard into the boards by Victoire defender Kati Tabin. Petrie was in clear distress almost immediately and needed to be assisted off the ice. She didn’t return to the game. The 24-year-old played just 9:28 in the game, blocking a shot and delivering a hit before exiting. Minnesota would lose to Montreal, 3-2, in overtime.
Per the PWHL’s LTIR rules, Petrie won’t be eligible to return to the lineup until Jan. 28, when the Frost take on the Vancouver Goldeneyes in their final game before the Olympic break.
In 10 games thus far, the Hermosa Beach, Calif. native has scored two goals and an assist for three points. She has a plus/minus of -3 while averaging around 15 minutes of ice time.
It’s another untimely injury for Petrie. It was around this time last year that she suffered an upper-body injury that placed her on LTIR that kept her out of action for almost two months. It had derailed what was a strong start for the former Clarkson star, who ended up posting 10 points in 18 regular-season games. She notched just one assist in seven playoff contests.
Petrie is in the first season of her two-year contract extension she signed this past offseason. In 28 career games, she has potted five goals and eight assists for 13 points.
O’Donohoe was the one Minnesota actually signed when Petrie was put on the shelf last season as well. She ended up playing nine games for Minnesota, but didn’t register a point. She also played 14 games with Brynäs IF of the SDHL, posting two goals and five assists for seven points. The 24-year-old started this season once again on the team’s reserve list.
The Frost (4-1-2-3) are third in the PWHL, six points back of the first-place Boston Fleet.
