Frost activate Kendall Coyne Schofield from long-term injured reserve

One of the league’s icons is set to return to action.
On Sunday, the Minnesota Frost announced that captain Kendall Coyne Schofield has been activated from long-term injured reserve. To open up a roster spot, the Frost placed fellow forward Kaitlyn O’Donohoe back on their reserve list.
Coyne Schofield will be in the lineup on Sunday when Minnesota takes on the Boston Fleet in a marquee matchup.
The Palos Heights, Ill., native was placed on LTIR a little over a month ago, right before the team’s first game following the Olympic break. She suffered an upper-body injury during the gold medal game of the 2026 Winter Olympics. In Milan, Coyne Schofield scored three goals in seven games, down from her six-point performance during the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The 33-year-old won a second gold medal at the Winter Games, defeating Canada in a thrilling final in overtime.
Prior to her injury, the veteran center had been playing a key role in Minnesota staking its claim as one of the top teams in the PWHL. In 15 games, she has scored 10 goals and six assists for 16 points, sitting fourth in the league in goals and tied for 10th in overall scoring. The former Northeastern star is ranked fifth all-time in league scoring, with 56 points in 69 career games.
The return of Coyne Schofield will provide a boost for the league’s highest-scoring offense, as Minnesota is the lone team so far to score 60 goals.
O’Donohoe has been on the active roster since signing a standard contract after second-year forward Dominique Petrie was placed on LTIR in early January. The Atlanta native appeared in eight games, scoring her first PWHL goal on March 18 in a 5-0 win over the Ottawa Charge. It was O’Donohoe’s first point of her career, which has seen her appear in 17 regular-season games with the Frost.
The Frost (11-3-3-5) sits third in the PWHL, six points back of the Boston Fleet for first place.
