Sharks sign Jimmy Huntington to one-year contract

The San Jose Sharks announced on Wednesday that they signed center Jimmy Huntington to a one-year, two-way contract.
The Sharks did not disclose the salary of Huntington’s contract, nor has it been reported at this point in time. However, given it is a two-way contract, it will likely fall between the league minimum salary of $850,000 and the entry-level contract maximum of $1,025,000.
Huntington was set to become an unrestricted free agent with the expiration of his one-year contract with a $775,000 cap hit. Huntington signed the contract last summer, joining the Sharks through free agency.
Huntington had the best season of his AHL career in 2025-26, as he had 15 goals and 33 assists for 48 points in 71 games with the San Jose Barracuda. While his 15 goals was one short of his career high of 16 set in 2023-24, his 33 assists blew his previous career best of 19 in 2022-23 out of the water, with that mark actually being as many as he had previously had points in a season.
Huntington was also excellent in the Barracuda’s brief stint in the playoffs, getting one goal and one assist for two points in two games as the team was swept in the Pacific Division first round by the Henderson Silver Knights.
Huntington’s extension is the third contract the Sharks have signed this summer, as they’ve also signed Patrick Giles to a two-year contract with an $875,000 cap hit and Carson Wetsch to an entry-level contract.
The Sharks will have plenty of room to improve the roster this summer after missing out on a playoff spot by four points with their 39-35-8 record. They have just over $41.5 million in salary cap space to use with nine restricted free agents and 15 UFAs to re-sign, highlighted by Mario Ferraro, John Klingberg, Pavol Regenda and Collin Graf.
