You always remember your first, and it’s safe to say Jacob Fowler will remember his first NHL game forever.

On Thursday night, Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jacob Fowler made his big-league debut against the Pittsburgh Penguins. It’s safe to say that it went well. The Canadiens were outshot 38-29, and the former Boston College star stepped up, giving up just two goals in a 4-2 victory. He became the fourth goaltender in Habs history to make his NHL debut in Pittsburgh, and score a win. The first guy to start the trend was Ken Dryden back in 1971. The others? Patrick Roy and Carey Price…not bad.

Even for a guy who is as highly-touted as Fowler is, sometimes nerves can play a factor. However, for a young man who played in numerous big-time games during his college career, Fowler seemed primed for the task, giving Montreal fans hope for their goaltending in the future.

On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Carter Hutton explained how good Fowler was in his first game in the NHL.

Carter Hutton: I thought it was really great. Mature beyond his years in his style and the way he presents himself. What I mean by that is, when guys get called [to the NHL], you watch them play…you just tell they’re not ready. They’re just not patient enough. They don’t present themselves big in the net. [Fowler] presents well. His patience up top was impressive. He made a lot of big saves. I liked his game.

Tyler Yaremchuk: The one thing that caught my attention, he didn’t face a shot for like eight and a half minutes in that game. Then, the first look, it was like a backdoor play from [Anthony] Mantha that he stopped. But can you imagine? Like, again, he clearly wasn’t feeling nerves. He looked very confident. But sitting there being like, all right, NHL debut. Then you go north of eight minutes without facing a shot. It’s crazy.
