Habs sign Chris Wideman to two-year contract extension
Chris Wideman will be sticking around in Montreal for two more years.
The Canadiens announced on Monday that the 32-year-old defenseman has inked a two-year contract extension. The deal is worth $750,000 annually, according to Eric Engles.

— Canadiens Montréal (@CanadiensMTL) June 6, 2022It looked like Wideman’s time in the NHL was finished just a few years ago. He spent the 2019-20 season playing for the San Diego Gulls of the AHL and then went overseas to play for Torpedo Novgorod of the KHL for the 2020-21 season.
Wideman scored 41 points in 59 games in the KHL, which ultimately earned him a one-year, show-me deal with the Habs worth $750,000. Wideman made good on his opportunity in Montreal, as he scored a career-high 27 points over the course of 64 games with the Habs.
The Habs have a handful of other players who are eligible to hit the open market as unrestricted free agents this summer, including Laurent Dauphin, Mathieu Perreault, Tyler Pitlick, William Lagesson, and Sami Niku.
