Full order of selections released for 2026 NHL Draft

We know where every team in the 2026 NHL Draft will be picking.
On Thursday, the league released the seven-round selection process for this year’s event, which is returning to Buffalo for the first time since 2016.
There are a lot of similarities between the 2016 draft and this year’s selection process, most notably the team that is picking first. After a disastrous 2025-26 season, which saw the team’s general manager resign and the head coach fired, the Toronto Maple Leafs won the draft lottery for the first time in 10 years. The last time the draft was held at KeyBank Center, the Maple Leafs took Auston Matthews with the first overall pick, turning the franchise’s fortunes around overnight.
Now, new GM John Chayka has the chance to select another top-end prospect. All eyes are set on the Leafs taking Penn State star Gavin McKenna with the No. 1 pick. While some argue whether his stock is as high as Matthews’ was a decade prior, there’s no question he’s one of the most skilled players outside of the pro game today.
Following the Leafs are the San Jose Sharks, a team that was on pace to make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs before falling off in the final months of the year. They could certainly add to their young core with a young star in the making in Ivar Stenberg, or trade the pick to find a more experienced piece that could make a difference right away.
The first round of the 2026 NHL Draft is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, June 26. Rounds 2-7 will take place on June 27, starting at 11 a.m. ET.
