Report: Oilers acquire Dickinson, Dach from Blackhawks for Mangiapane, pick

Mere days after a trade that sent Connor Murphy from the Windy City to Alberta, the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks have made another deal ahead of Friday’s NHL trade deadline.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Oilers are acquiring forward Jason Dickinson and another piece in exchange for winger Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional draft pick.
TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that the conditional draft pick was a protected first-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft, as well as that Chicago would be retaining 50 percent of Dickinson’s $4.25 million salary.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman later reported that forward Colton Dach would be the other piece heading to Edmonton.
Dickinson, who has been serving as the Blackhawks’ third-line center, has appeared in 47 games this year, recording 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points. The 30-year-old from Ontario has 168 career points in 549 regular season games.
Dach has 9 points in 53 games this season, and he’s skated to a minus-15 rating.
Mangiapane, who was recently waived by the Oilers, is headed back the other way primarily to make the cap numbers work. He carries a salary cap hit of $3.6 million next season.
Edmonton hoped the former 35-goal scorer would add scoring punch to their lineup, but he contributed just 14 points in his 52 games this season.
The 2025-26 campaign has been a tumultuous one for the Oilers, who are struggling just to stay in the playoff field as they look to get back to the Stanley Cup Final for the third season in a row.
Prior to Wednesday night’s slate, Edmonton owned a 29-24-8 record, good enough to hold a four-point lead for the Western Conference’s second wild card spot over the San Jose Sharks, who had three games in hand.
General manager Stan Bowman has not sat idly by, though his first big move backfired as sending Stuart Skinner to Pittsburgh in exchange for Tristan Jarry has downgraded what was an already problematic situation between the pipes.
