Red Wings sign Eddie Genborg to three-year, entry-level contract

The Detroit Red Wings announced Sunday they signed forward Eddie Genborg to a three-year, entry-level contract that will start in 2026-27. He will report to the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, on an amateur tryout for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

His three-year deal will keep him with the Red Wings organization through the 2028-29 season.
The 18-year-old has spent the majority of the 2025-26 season with Timra IK in the Swedish Elite League, where he’s recorded nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 43 games. His 25 points are the third-most points among under-20 skaters in Sweden.
The 2025 second-round pick finished the 2024-25 season with 19 goals and 15 assists for 34 points in 28 games with Linkoping HC Jr. in Sweden’s junior hockey league.
A native of Trollhattan, Sweden, Genborg represented his country at the 2026 World Junior Championship, helping the Swedes win a gold medal. He also earned a silver medla at the 2025 World Under-18 Championship.
The Red Wings are 36-23-8 with 80 points through 67 games in 2025-26, fifth in the Atlantic Division and currently hold on to the second Wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.
Detroit has lost three straight games, including a 3-2 overtime defeat to the Dallas Stars on Saturday. They open a four-game homestand next week, starting Monday against the Calgary Flames, followed by division matchups against the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators.
As for the Griffins, they are 43-10-3-1 with 90 points, first in the Central Division and they have the second-best record in the AHL.
