Red Wings’ Patrick Kane becomes 24th NHL player to record 1,400 career points

The Detroit Red Wings‘ season may not have gone the way they wanted, but even after having been eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday, they have at least one individual accomplishment worth celebrating.
During Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Red Wings forward Patrick Kane became just the 24th player in NHL history to record at least 1,400 points over the course of their career.
And it was a sweeeet assist on DeBrincat's goal! 🤩
It’s been a season of milestones for Kane, who in January became the 50th player in NHL history to score 500 career goals. On April 2nd, he passed Brett Hull to become the highest scoring American player in NHL history.
The Buffalo, New York native’s case as the greatest American-born player of all time continues to get stronger. His prolific individual production combined with the team success he experienced with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he won three Stanley Cup championships over six seasons, at the very least puts him league with the likes of Hull, Mike Modano, and Chris Chelios as the best Americans in NHL history.

Selected first overall by the Blackhawks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Kane immediately established himself as a high-end offensive player, putting up 21 goals and 51 assists for 72 points in 82 games in his rookie season. He played 15-plus seasons in Chicago, winning three Stanley Cups, the Hart Trophy in 2016 as league MVP, and the Conn Smythe Trophy as postseason MVP in 2013, among other accolades.
After a brief stint with the New York Rangers, Kane has now played three full seasons with the Red Wings, where he’s continued to be a highly effective offensive weapon.
Kane, 37, is the fifth-highest scoring non-Canadian in NHL history, and has the chance to pass Teemu Selanne and possibly Evgeni Malkin assuming he plays next season.
Detroit will visit the Florida Panthers on Wednesday for their final game of the season.
