Report: Red Wings’ Larkin expands trade list by one team

It looks like Dylan Larkin’s wishes are starting to bend.
According to MLive’s Ansar Khan, the Detroit Red Wings captain has expanded by a single team. After it was reported that Larkin was willing to waive his full no-trade clause to go to either the Florida Panthers, defending Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights, or the Minnesota Wild. However, after a roadblock has seemingly been put up with those teams, Khan noted that the Waterford Township, Mich. native has said he’d be open to being traded to the Dallas Stars.
The new report comes just a couple of days after Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press stated that Larkin hadn’t expanded his go-to destination list beyond the three teams. However, it seems as if Larkin is willing to join a talented team in Dallas that has become one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
Per Khan, the Red Wings have had conversations with the Stars regarding Wyatt Johnston, a player who could most certainly fill Larkin’s role as a top-line center. However, the Stars weren’t interested in giving away the young player with loads of potential. They did respond by offering up the signing rights to Jason Robertson, who recently turned down an eight-year, $15 million AAV contract from the Seattle Kraken.
Larkin’s NTC persists through the 2027-28 season, with a cap hit of $8.7 million through the 2030-31 campaign, when he will be 33 years old. The Red Wings, who have reportedly been interested in acquiring a center who can make an impact now at an affordable price, receiving Robertson, who’s destined to make over $10 million in his new deal, seems a little outside their budget.
Larkin has been part of the Red Wings organization since he was taken by the team with the 15th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. In 808 games, he has scored 276 goals and 367 assists for 643 points. However, he has only been to the Stanley Cup Playoffs once, that coming in his rookie season in 2015-16.
