Daily Fantasy Stacking: 02-27-18

It’s another busy night in the NHL with a nine-game slate on tap. Here are some of my top stacks of the night.

High-Priced

Brad Marchand ($7,400)-Riley Nash ($3,500)-David Pastrnak ($6,300)

As unfortunate as the injury to Patrice Bergeron is, it’s added some serious value to Boston 1 for tonight’s slate. Riley Nash is certainly no Bergeron, but his 54.31 SCF% is impressive nonetheless, and it’s not that far off of the elite 57.42 SCF% that Marchand and Pastrnak have posted at 5v5 together this season. If these numbers ring true, the slight drop in scoring chances for Boston 1 will be more than offset by the drop in price, which is around $4000 on DraftKings tonight.

The Hurricanes will be hard pressed to sufficiently match up against Boston’s top line without Jordan Staal. Needless to say, Riley Nash will have a much easier time adopting to his new role against the likes of Elias Lindholm, Derek Ryan, and Victor Rask. Making this stack all the more appealing tonight is Scott Darling, who is expected to get the nod for the Hurricanes. He brings a terrible .890 SV% into tonight’s contest and has allowed three goals or more in eight of his last ten starts. If the play of Riley Nash can at all mitigate the loss of Bergeron at even strength, Boston 1 could be in for a big night. If you want to make it a full stack, Charlie McAvoy ($4,200) has seen a bump in usage recently.

Evgenii Dadonov ($5,900)-Aleksander Barkov ($6,700)-Nick Bjugstad ($4,500)

Florida’s top line has caught a number of breaks heading into tonight’s matchup against the Maple Leafs. For one, the Leafs are on a back-to-back so they get the benefit of playing host to a more fatigued team. Freddie Andersen got the nod for the Leafs in Tampa last night, meaning the Panthers have luckily drawn Curtis McElhinney tonight. And of course, the Maple Leafs are still without their best player, Auston Matthews.

Head Coach Bob Boughner is expected to match the Barkov line against the likes of Patrick Marleau, Nazem Kadri, and Mitch Marner at 5v5 tonight. The Leafs’ second line is not what you would call a shutdown unit, giving up 34 scoring chances against per 60. Both of these lines can pop offensively, but given their 59.57 SCF% on the year, it should be Florida 1 that sees the majority of the chances tonight. Let your budget dictate whether you should add Mike Matheson ($3,900) or Keith Yandle ($5,100) to this stack.

Value Stack

Jakub Vrana ($3,100)-Evgeny Kuznetsov ($5,600)-T.J. Oshie ($4,700)

Both the goaltending and the 5v5 matchup scream value for this line tonight. Washington’s second line is a strong and consistent unit, and tonight they will matchup against the depth of the Senators, or at least what’s left of it. Barry Trotz will almost certainly match the Ovechkin line against Ottawa 1, which leaves the Kuznetsov line to roam free over the second and third lines of Ottawa. Bobby Ryan’s horrible defensive numbers eliminate any threat that Mark Stone and Gabriel Pageau could potentially pose, and there isn’t a reliable defensive forward in Ottawa’s bottom-six at this point.

Mike Condon and his .901 SV% are getting the call for the Senators tonight, which should help Washington 2 convert once or twice on the chances they’re sure to get. And at this price, one or two conversions is all you’re going to need from them. If you want to make it a full stack, there is some powerplay compatibility with the high-priced John Carlson ($6,300).
