Daily Fantasy GPP Picks: 03-31-18

There’s nine games to play with on the second last Saturday night slate of the regular season. I’ve outlined the strongest one-off plays in GPP tournaments tonight in hopes of winning us all a little extra cash. Good luck!
Viktor Arvidsson ($7,000)
The Predators will be a popular target tonight as they play host to the lowly Sabres, and none should attract more attention than Viktor Arvidsson. The Preds’ winger is enjoying one of the finest stretches of his young career, tallying three goals, four assists, and 18 shots on goal in his last six games. His usage has steadily climbed of late as well, totaling at least 17 minutes in each of the Preds’ last five games, giving him a floor high enough to justify tonight’s hefty price tag.
It’s not secret as to why the Sabres have become such a common DFS target this season; they give up the third most goals in the league and have a bottom-ten penalty kill. This is especially prominent tonight as the Sabres are expected to go with backup goalie Chad Johnson and his .897 SV%. Arvidsson makes for a strong one-off in cash games tonight but if you’re looking to stack with him in GPP make sure you leave a spot open for Eeli Tolvanen ($2,800). The 18-year-old is expected to play alongisde Arvidsson and Ryan Johansen on the Preds’ top line tonight and practiced with the top powerplay unit this morning as well. Adding that kind of usage for just $2800 will go a long way in mitigating the expensive price-tag attached to Arvidsson.
Connor McDavid ($8,100)
Even for his ridiculous standards, McDavid has been on fire of late. He’s racked up seven goals, six assists, and 20 shots on goal in his last five games, averaging a remarkable 9.0 fantasy points in DraftKings over that stretch. Fading McDavid when he’s on a streak like this is never advised and it’s been increasingly difficult to cash in GPPs without having him in your lineup. This should all ring true again tonight against the Flames. McDavid has five points against Calgary already this season, including a hat-trick on opening night.
Mike Smith heads into tonight’s start without a win in his last five appearances, posting an abysmal .890 SV% over that span. A run-in with a scorching hot Connor McDavid isn’t exactly what Smith needs to get his game back on track. McDavid obviously makes for a very strong one-off play tonight, but feel free to stack any combination of his linemates alongside him. As Ty Rattie so eloquently put it, his dad could play a season on McDavid’s wing and put up 100 points.
P.K. Subban ($5,500)
This article is all about highlighting the safest plays on tonight’s slate, and there’s no safer add to your blueline tonight than Subban. He’s averaged over 25 minutes over his last five games, registering four assists, eight blocked shots, and 13 shots on goal in that span. That kind of usage gives him an incredibly sturdy floor in tonight’s matchup with the Sabres.
Obviously, much of what we already covered about Arvidsson is directly applicable to Subban as well. Subban will see an excess amount of playing time in all situations, most notably on the top powerplay unit as he mans the point alongside Arvidsson and company. It’s hard to imagine the sub-par goaltending of Chad Johnson not being exposed by the Preds’ powerplay, which only raises the expected output of Subban. He’s a no-brainer on this slate and you won’t find better value on the blueline tonight.
