Daily Fantasy GPP Picks: 01-23-18

A busy Monday night means there’s six teams playing on a back-to-back tonight, making for plenty of intriguing plays across tonight’s 12 game slate.
David Pastrnak ($6,800)
Pastrnak is coming off a huge game Saturday night in Montreal, where he racked up two goals, an assist, and eight shots on goal. Tonight, the Bruins play host to the Devils who are travelling on a back-to-back without Taylor Hall in their lineup. The Devils’ temporary top line of Jesper Bratt-Nico Hischier-Kyle Palmieri struggled against the Red Wings last night in the absence of Hall. Taking on one of the league’s top lines without a day’s rest isn’t exactly a recipe for a bounce-back performance. You can expect Pastrnak and his line-mates to have the Devils hemmed in all night long, producing plenty of shots and scoring chances in the process. It goes without saying that the Bruins entire top line makes for a strong play tonight, but if you’re only looking to play one of them I think Pastrnak makes the most sense given their prices.
Connor McDavid ($7,900)
With the Sabres travelling to Edmonton on the heels of a back-to-back, McDavid’s ownership is likely to be through the roof. He’s the highest-priced skater on the slate and it’s for good reason. McDavid has been his dominant self at even strength this season, ranking second in the league with 39 even strength points. Where he and the Oilers have struggled to produce this year is on the powerplay. Through 47 games this year McDavid has just 11 powerplay points, tied for 71st in the league. Taking on the Sabres and their bottom-five penalty kill should do wonders for the Oilers’ powerplay. Fading McDavid is a risky call tonight, he’s got a great chance of going off. If you want to use him in a stack, consider Patrick Maroon ($5,300), who has four goals and an assist in his last three games.
Alex Pietrangelo ($6,600)
Pietraneglo is coming off a disappointing game against the lowly Coyotes on Saturday, when he failed to register a point. Luckily, he and the Blues arguably have an even stronger matchup tonight against the Senators. Ottawa currently sits third-last in the league with just 39 points, and they come into St. Louis after losing in Minnesota last night. While their powerplay has been the Blues only real weakness this season, it should be mitigated tonight by Ottawa’s lackluster penalty kill. Where this matchup should really get out of hand is at 5v5, where the Senators boast some of the league’s worst possession metrics. Playing on a back-to-back against one of the league’s better even strength teams only extrapolates those issues. Pietrangelo’s sky-high price combined with the large amount of strong matchups in tonight’s slate should help keep his ownership reasonable. A stack with Vladimir Tarasenko ($7,300), if you can afford it, could have huge dividends tonight.
