Brett Kulak scored biggest goal of his career to cap off Avalanche comeback

The Colorado Avalanche came back from a 3-0 deficit against the Minnesota Wild to force overtime, where Brett Kulak scored to help the Avs win Game 5 Wednesday night, clinching the second-round series and advancing to the Western Conference Final.
“You always like to dream about it,” Kulak told reporters after the game. “But like you say, the player I am, I’m not the guy everyone’s looking down the bench at, like, ‘Alright, get out there and go win it for us.’ It’s a special goal in my career, for sure.”
The OT-winner was Kulak’s first goal of the playoffs and just his second of the 2025-26 season as he only scored once in 83 regular-season games in 2025-26 (yes, Kulak played 83 games between his time with the Avalanche, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers).
On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss the Avalanche’s series-clinching win and how Colorado performed in Game 5.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Brett Kulak scored the clincher on Wednesday night, and what a moment for the veteran defenseman. I don’t think he’s ever going to score a bigger goal last night.
What did you make of Kulak finishing this thing off? The way I sum up this series, with the 3-0 comeback to finish it off, with everything else we saw: The Avs were just inevitable.
Carter Hutton: You never want to say that getting a 3-0 lead early is a bad thing, but it felt like in this game, you just let this team hang around. It felt like the Wild dominated the first period, then they played a little bit of a safer brand of hockey, then they brought it down to about five minutes left in the game at 3-1.
On the OT winner, it’s funny, because Martin Necas said he just jumped on to get on because the Avs only had four guys on, and he ended up feeding Kulak the game winner.
