Hurricanes acquire Nic Deslauriers from Flyers for conditional pick

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired left winger Nic Deslauriers from the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday, adding to the roster with hopes of a strong end to the 2025-26 regular season and a deep run in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
In exchange for the 35-year-old, the Hurricanes sent a conditional pick in the seventh round of the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
Deslauriers has seen limited playing time with the Flyers this season, posting an assist in 24 games after netting two goals and three points in 30 regular-season contests last season. He last played over 50 games in a season in 2023-24, when he netted a goal and three assists in 60 showings.
In his career, the native of La Salle, Quebec, has amassed 53 goals and 105 points through 701 NHL games. Before the Flyers, he spent time with the Minnesota Wild, Anaheim Ducks, Montréal Canadiens, and Buffalo Sabres, after four seasons with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL, having been a third-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
While his offensive firepower has never stood out, Deslauriers has been a consistent physical presence through his career, amassing 794 penalty minutes and racking up over 80 fights, including five this season.
Of those fights, he has battled with the NHL’s tallest player, Curtis Douglas, who stands at six-foot-nine and joined the Vancouver Canucks from the Tampa Bay Lightning ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. His fighting resume also includes bouts with Ryan Reaves, Radko Gudas and many others.
The Hurricanes return to NHL action just hours after the deadline with a visit to the Edmonton Oilers. At the same time, the Flyers look ahead to their first game without his physical presence in the organization when they face rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.
