The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final Sunday night, hoisting the Stanley Cup for the second time in franchise history.

In a series that saw high-scoring performances from both teams, it was the Hurricanes who played their game in Game 6, shutting down the Golden Knights’ scoring chances and suffocating them in the neutral zone. When the clock struck zero and the gloves and sticks littered the ice, Carolina had produced the only shutout of the series, keeping the likes of Mitch Marner, Jack Eichel, Pavel Dorofeyev and Brett Howden off the scoresheet.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL defenseman Colby Cohen discuss Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final and what the Hurricanes needed to do to win it all.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Carolina looked like they weren’t going to be denied, but not in the sense that it was this crazy, fiery output where they score six goals and the puck is in Vegas’ end the whole time. The Hurricanes knew the Stanley Cup was in the building and within their grasp, but they didn’t sway away from their system. They played the most classic Carolina Hurricanes game you could think of.

Colby Cohen: That was the best Carolina game of the whole Final, right? I mean, Jonny Lazarus and I were arguing about this, and yeah, Vegas had shots on goal, and they had chances, but I said to Jonny, “How many chances did they recover a puck and have a second or third chance?”

There were a few flurries where you saw desperation plays, but it was a smothering-on-top-of-you, create turnovers, textbook-type of game by Carolina. By far, that was their most Carolina-like effort in the six games of the Final.
