The Buffalo Sabres have agreed to terms on a deal to acquire defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from the Winnipeg Jets, trading forward Isak Rosén, defenseman Jacob Bryson, a 2027 second-round pick and a conditional 2026 fourth-round pick the other way.

Expected Buffalo founder Chad DeDominicis was the first to report the news of the impending trade on Thursday evening, with The Athletic’s Murat Ates and TSN’s Darren Dreger reporting the full details.

Stanley, 27, has nine goals and 21 points while averaging 17:12 of ice time in 59 games with the Jets this year. The 6’7″ left-shot defender is under contract through the end of the season at a $1.25 million cap hit.

Schenn, 36, has one goal and seven points while averaging 13:44 of ice time in 46 games with the Jets this season. The 6-foot-2 righty is also a pending UFA who counts for $2.75 million against the cap.

Earlier on Thursday, it was reported that the Sabres were in the process of acquiring depth forward Sam Carrick from the New York Rangers. The Sabres also reportedly made a play for St. Louis Blues defenseman Colton Parayko, only for him to veto a potential deal through his no-trade clause.

After their 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, the Sabres are now tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for first place in the Atlantic Division with a 37-19-6 record and 80 points in 62 games this season.

The Jets originally selected Stanley in the first round (No. 18 overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. The Waterloo, Ont. product has appeared in 261 career NHL games over parts of six seasons with the Jets, collecting 14 goals and 57 points; he’s added two goals and four points in 17 playoff contests.

Schenn first joined the Jets at the 2025 trade deadline and skated in 11 playoff games with the club that year. A first-round pick (No. 5 overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2008 NHL Draft, Schenn has collected 45 goals and 212 points in 1,118 career games with the Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators, and Jets; he won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021.

Rosén was considered to be one of Buffalo’s top prospects, having put up 185 points in 231 games played over four seasons with the AHL’s Rochester Americans. He also has eight points in 31 games over parts of three NHL seasons.

Bryson, meanwhile, is a 29-year-old defender with five points in 35 games to his credit this year. The pending UFA has spent his entire NHL career with the Sabres since getting selected 99th overall in 2017, registering six goals and 48 points in 289 games.
