Fleet activate Sophie Shirley from LTIR

The Boston Fleet announced Saturday that forward Sophie Shirley has been activated from long-term injured reserve and will be in the lineup for their game on Saturday against the Seattle Torrent.

The Fleet also announced that defender Olivia Zafuto has been placed on the team’s reserve player list.

Shirley suffered a lower-body injury during a practice in January. She last played Jan. 18 against the Torrent. In 12 games this season, the 26-year-old forward has three assists.

In 60 career PWHL games, all with Boston, Shirley has three goals and 10 assists for 13 points. She was also part of the team’s 2024 Walter Cup playoff run, where she recorded one goal and one assist for two points in eight games.

Meanwhile, Zafuto appeared in six games with the Fleet this season, averaging 4:49 of ice time. She has one assist in 19 career PWHL games with Boston and the New York Sirens.

Going into Saturday, the Fleet are 9-5-2-4 with 39 points in 20 games, third in the PWHL. While they are tied with the first-place Minnesota Frost and second-place Montreal Victoire with 39 points, those two teams are ahead of Boston due to regulation wins.

Defenseman Megan Keller and forward Alina Muller are tied for the team lead with 15 points. Muller leads the way with 12 assists, while forward Jessie Eldridge has a team-leading seven goals.

Goaltender Aerin Frankel is 13-3-2 with a .947 save percentage and 1.36 goals against average in 18 games.

After the Fleet play the Torrent, Boston will host the Vancouver Goldeneyes on Tuesday.
