Bruins’ Arvidsson missed games against Sabres with broken rib, punctured lung

A player who missed a couple of games in the postseason has revealed the cause.
During the team’s end-of-season media availability on Sunday, Boston Bruins forward Viktor Arvidsson stated that he was out for the last two games of the team’s Atlantic Division Semifinal against the Buffalo Sabres due to a broken rib and a punctured lung.
Arvidsson mentioned that he was having trouble moving, as well as breathing. Yet, he was hoping to return if the Bruins had forced a Game 7.
Arvidsson was knocked out of action in the fourth game of the series last week. In the first period of said contest, the Swedish winger took a hit from Sabres defenseman Mattias Samuelsson.
Arvidsson was later ruled out for the remainder of the game with an upper-body injury, after logging just 3:13 of ice time in what ended up being a 6-1 defeat.
In the four games the 33-year-old played in the first round, he potted two goals, both coming in the Bruins’ 4-2 win in Game 2. Boston was ultimately eliminated in six games, as the Sabres clinched their first playoff series win in 19 years.
It came after a solid bounce-back season for Arvidsson. After a disappointing 27 points last year with the Edmonton Oilers, he seemingly returned to form, scoring 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points in 69 games.
Arvidsson, who was acquired by the Bruins from the Oilers on July 1 for a fifth-round pick, is in the final season of his two-year contract he signed with Edmonton in July 2024. The deal carried a cap hit of $4 million.
