Bruins’ Hagens to play for Team USA at World Championships

The Boston Bruins are holding their locker clean out day on Sunday, just two days after their season came to an end with a Game 6 loss at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres.
That means newsworthy tidbits about which players were playing through what sort of injuries as well as which players will head off to join their respective national teams at the IIHF World Championships.
For the Bruins, that includes rookie James Hagens, who confirmed to reporters, including Bridgette Proulx of WEEI, on Sunday that he will be a part of Team USA for the tournament, which gets underway on May 15 in Zurich, Switzerland.
This will be the final portion of what will go down as an incredibly busy season for Hagens, who went from being selected with the No. 7 overall pick of the 2025 NHL Draft to completing his collegiate career with a strong season at Boston College, in the middle of which he played for the Americans at the IIHF U20 World Junior Championships.
In Chestnut Hill, he racked up 47 points in 34 games played, while at World Juniors, he finished with better than point-per-game production at the tournament for the second year in a row, posting seven points on two goals and five assists in five contests.
After Boston College’s season came to an end, Hagens signed an ATO to join Boston’s AHL affiliate in Providence, where he scored his first professional goal while finishing with six points in four games. The Long Island native then signed his entry-level contract in time to join the Bruins for the final portion of the regular season and brief postseason run.
Hagens had one assist in his two regular season games while going pointless in three games in his Stanley Cup Playoff debut.
The Americans will be looking to earn a repeat gold at the World Championships following last year’s effort that saw them take home the ultimate prize for just the third time in the history of the tournament and the first time since 1960.
