The Boston Bruins have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with pending restricted free agent forward Ivan Ivan, the club announced Monday afternoon.

The Bruins previously acquired Ivan from the Colorado Avalanche on June 27 in a trade for fellow forward prospect Fabian Lysell. Ivan appeared in nine games with the Avalanche during the 2025-26 regular season, recording one assist.

According to the Bruins, Ivan is now signed to a two-way contract that carries an $850,000 NHL cap hit for the 2026-27 season, after which he will again be scheduled to become an RFA.

An undrafted player, Ivan played his junior hockey with the QMJHL’s Cape Breton Eagles before turning pro with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles for the 2023-24 season. Ivan collected 31 points in 67 games with the Eagles as an AHL rookie, prompting the Avalanche to upgrade his deal to an entry-level NHL contract in March of 2024.

Ivan split the following season between the Eagles and Avalanche, collecting five goals and eight points in his first 40 NHL games while also recording 12 points in 36 games with the Eagles. In the 2025-26 season, Ivan amassed 11 goals and 26 points in 66 regular-season contests before contributing three goals and 15 points in 17 games during the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Before turning pro, the Ostrava, Czechia product represented his home country at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, collecting one assist in seven games and becoming something of a viral sensation for his repetitive name (which TSN erroneously listed as “Ivan Ivan Ivan”).

The Bruins had previously tendered Ivan a qualifying offer ahead of Monday’s 5 p.m. ET deadline. With Ivan now signed for the 2026-27 season, the Bruins now have just three RFAs remaining to deal with this summer: forwards Matt Poitras and Riley Duran, as well as goaltender Luke Cavallin.
