A former prospect is moving across the continent.

At the bell on NHL Trade Deadline Day, the Boston Bruins acquired forward Lukas Reichel from the Vancouver Canucks. In exchange, the Canucks are receiving a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

This is the second time this season that Reichel has been traded. In late October, the German winger was traded to the Canucks by the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2027 fourth-round pick. The move came as Reichel was unhappy with his situation with the Hawks organization.

Reichel didn’t find much more love with the Canucks. He has played just 14 games with Vancouver since the trade, spending most of the time with the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks. In 23 games with the Abby Canucks, he has scored six goals and seven assists for 13 points.

Reichel is in the final season of his two-year contract that he signed with the Blackhawks in May 2024. The deal has a cap hit of $1.2 million. The pending restricted free agent does have arbitration rights.

Reichel has appeared in 188 NHL games in his career, scoring 22 goals and 37 assists for 59 points. In 158 AHL games, both regular-season and playoffs, he has notched 53 goals and 83 assists for 136 points.

The NĂĽrnberg native did have a chance to represent his country at the 2026 Winter Olympics. With Germany, he scored two goals and recorded an assist as the team reached the quarterfinals before losing to Slovakia.

With the trade, the Bruins currently don’t have a sixth-round pick in the 2026 draft, though they have a total of eight selections in Buffalo this summer.

The Bruins (34-22-5) are fifth in the Atlantic Division, holding onto the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Canucks (18-36-7) have the worst record in the NHL.
