Ducks’ Cutter Gauthier leaves game against Leafs with upper-body injury

The Anaheim Ducks announced on social media that forward Cutter Gauthier would not return to their Monday night game against the Toronto Maple Leafs after suffering an upper-body injury.
Injury Update: Cutter Gauthier has an upper-body injury and will not return to this game.
It occurred midway through the first period when Gauthier took what appeared to be a cross-check from Leafs’ defenseman Jake McCabe.
On the same sequence, he scored his 38th goal of the season. After scoring his goal, he went to the locker room and did not return. He finished the game with with a goal and 3:20 of ice time.
Through 73 games, Gauthier has 38 goals and 27 assists for 65 points. Now in his second full season, the 22-year-old winger has 58 goals and 52 assists for 110 points in 156 career regular-season games.
Gauthier was acquired by the Ducks in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers in January 2024. He was taken No. 5 overall by the Flyers in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
Before turning professional, Gauthier spent two seasons playing college hockey with Boston College. He scored 54 goals and 48 assists for 102 points in 73 career NCAA games. In his sophomore season, he recorded a school-record 38 goals and 27 assists for 65 points.
Going into Monday’s game, the Ducks were 41-28-4 with 86 points in 73 games, first in the Pacific Division. They will play the San Jose Sharks Wednesday, the St. Louis Blues Friday and Calgary Flames over the weekend.
Gauthier’s 38 goals leads the team, while Jackson Lacombe has a team-leading 42 assists. Gauthier are No. 1 and No. 2 in points with 65 and 62, respectively.
Lukas Dostal is 29-16-3 with an .894 save percentage (SV%) and a 3.01 goals against average (GAA).
