Ducks acquire Sean Farrell from Canadiens for Sasha Pastujov
The Anaheim Ducks and Montreal Canadiens are exchanging young, developmental forwards.
On Monday, the Ducks acquired winger Sean Farrell from the Canadiens for winger Sasha Pastujov.
Both players are currently restricted free agents, and have received qualiying offers from their original teams. They will require new contracts either via arbitration or negotiation for next season.
Farrell, 24, notched 17 goals and 36 assists for 53 points in 72 games for Montreal’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Laval Rocket last season.
The Hopkinton, Massachusetts native was initially selected by the Canadiens out of the United Stated Hockey League (USHL) in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. After getting drafted, he spent one more season with the USHL’s Chicago Steel, in which he broke out with 29 goals and 72 assists for 101 points in 53 games. He then had 10 points in eight playoff games en route to Chicago winning the Clark Cup as USHL champions.
After leaving the USHL, Farrell had a productive two-year collegiate career with Harvard University, where he compiled 30 goals and 51 assists for 81 points in 58 games. He joined the Canadiens at the tail end of the 2022-23 season, recording a goal and no assists in six games. He spent the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons with Laval, in which he scored 29 goals and added 43 assists for 72 points over 114 games.
Farrell’s biggest knock is his size, as he stands at 5’9″ and weighs 175 pounds.
Pastujov, 23, registered 21 goals and 36 assists for 57 points in 71 games for the Ducks’ AHL affiliate San Diego Gulls last season.
The Bradenton, Florida native was selected by Anaheim out of the USHL in the third round of the 2021 draft. After a three-year career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), including his 2022-23 season with the Sarnia Sting in which he had 30 goals and 49 assists for 79 points in 46 games, he joined the Ducks’ organization for the 2023-24 season. Over his first two years with San Diego, he recorded 27 goals and 41 assists for 68 points in 89 games.
