Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned forward Paul Byron to the Abbotsford Heat (AHL).
Byron scored three goals and five points in 22 games with the Flames. He has no fantasy hockey value while down in the minors.

CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that they have recalled forward Paul Byron from the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) as a result of Flames forward Matt Stajan having been placed on Injured Reserve due to an ankle sprain.

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned forwards Lance Bouma and Paul Byron to the Abbotsford Heat (AHL). The Flames now have 28 players remaining at training camp: two goalies, nine defensemen and 17 forwards.

It's another look for Roman Horak and Paul Byron, along with Lance Bouma; all three guys are hoping to crack the opening day lineup if injury situations play in, or if there is merit for them to be playing.
Byron scored 26 goals in 52 games last season while with the Portland Pirates of the AHL, earning an eight-game tryout. Clearly he is an offensive player but the jury remains out whether the diminutive forward can score in the NHL. He will at least need a top-6 lineup spot to be successful-- a role the team does not have open at this point.
The Vancouver Giants' Brendan Gallagher is still at the Montreal Canadiens training camp at this writing, even as his peers who have actually signed contracts and were also taken much earlier than 147th overall in the 2010 entry draft have trekked back to their junior clubs.
Gallagher could make the team out of camp as he continues his extended look. The diminutive right wing scored 44 goals and 91 points last season with the Vancouver Giants. If he stays with the big club it would likely be on the third or fourth line, which makes you think he would be better served in the WHL.
The Calgary Flames have officially traded defenceman Robyn Regehr to the Buffalo Sabres along with Ales Kotalik and a 2012 second round draft pick in exchange for defenceman Chris Butler and forward Paul Byron. The deal included all the particulars we had heard last night, with the only difference being the second round pick heading Buffalo's way instead of vice versa.
